Chamber Orchestra "Concertino Tbilissi" was founded in 1988 by a Georgian composer and conductor Shavleg Shilakadze, on the basis of a student orchestra.

In 1989-1990 the ensemble functioned under auspices of the Georgian Foundation of Culture.

In 1989 the established creative relations with Germany became one of the important pages in biography of the orchestra.

In 1990-2005 "Concertino Tbilissi" was one of the significant performing ensembles in the Union of Young Georgian Creators.

Today the main staff of the orchestra consists of twelve musicians, among them six musicians (as well as the leaders Shavleg and George Shilakadze) have been members of the orchestra since the day of its foundation.

The list of distinguished Georgian and foreign musicians who collaborated with the "Concertino Tbilissi" includes: Olga Balakleets, Liza Batiashvili , Michael Bosch, Eduard Brunner ,Ludovic Armin Cora, Natalia Gabunia, Tim Hawes , Eter Jakeli, Manana Egadze, Helmut Franke, Julian Gallant, Juri Kochnev, Edgar Manyak, Juan Jose Mena,Valeri Mikhalyuk, Bohdana Pivnenko, Andri Tuchapets, Liviu Varcol and many more.

The Swiss Foundation "Raum für Kultur" and its President Mrs. Marina Milz have been longtime and devoted partners of the orchestra.

Since 2001 "Concertino Tbilissi" has had interesting creative partnership with the Goethe-Institut in Tbilisi, the initiator of which was Ilse Joana Heinle, Director of the Institute.

The important collaboration of the orchestra with the Evangelical-Lutheran Reconciliation Church, which was initiated by the late Dr. Gert Hummel, is being continued today.

Since 2006 "Concertino Tbilissi" is an independent ensemble.
