Repertoire, concerts, tours
The repertoire of the "Concertino Tbilissi" includes a significant amount of the major chamber-instrumental and cantata-oratorio works of the XVII-XX century composers. Among them: Bach's "Christmas Oratorio" and many cantatas, "Branderburg Concertos", Haendel's "Messiah", Schutz's and Haydn's "The Seven Last Words of Christ", Mozart's "Requiem", Schonberg's "Verklaerte Nacht" ("Transfigured Night"), Stravinsky's Concerto in D, Bartok's "Divertimento", Lutoslawski's "Funeral Music", Haydn's, Mozart's, Schubert's Symphonies, Instrumental Concertos and numerous works by Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Mahler, Shostakovich, Elgar, Strauss, Sibelius, Schmidt and others arranged for string orchestra, also works by Georgian composers. "Concertino Tbilissi" was the first performer of many of them in Georgia.
Since the day of its foundation the Orchestra has held about 400 concerts both in Georgia and abroad, among them in Germany (1990, 1991, 1993, 1995, 1996, 1997, in Spain (March, October-November 1993), in Switzerland (1996, 1997), in Great Britain (1998).
The participation of the ensemble "Concertino Tbilissi" in the Telavi International Music Festival "Keba Vazisa" (1989), the founder and Artistic Director of which was famous Georgian pianist Eliso Virsaladze , was very important.
Long and close relations have been established with different German cities. This initiative began in 1990 thanks to the support of Nana Djordjasdze, famous Georgian.film-director.
Future highlights include a tour of Germany including such regions as Badenwuerttemberg, Bavaria, Brandenburg. The tours in these regions were promoted by the partners of "Concertino Tbilissi" viz.: Benno Lichtenegger, Burgemeister of Dietramszell, Dr. Friedrich Vogel, Head of Intercontinental Contacts Society, Ernst Herzog, Andreas Eckert, Peter Marx and others. In Germany the orchestra gave concerts in such cities as Villingen, Lahr, Radolfzell, Biberach, Bad Toelz, Potsdam, Guben and others. The participation of "Concertino Tbilissi" in the German-South-Caucasian project is very important. The project which was a prominent Georgian composer Giya Kancheli supposed appearance of the joint Caucasian Orchestra in Germany, Branderburg region and in the Chamber Hall of the Berlin Philharmonic society as well.
"Concertino Tbilissi" has held two longtime tours in Spain in March 1993 and October-November of the same year, The concert tours were organized by Javier Cameno, a member of the Europacantata Council. In the framework of this project the orchestra gave more than 150 educational and academic concerts in Zaragoza, Vitoria, Burgos, Zamora, Ciudad Rodrigo, Salvatiera and other cities.
In 1996-1997 "Concertino Tbilissi" had concert tours in Sirnach, Boswil, Romanshorn, Talwil. The organizer of these concerts was Fund "Raum fuer Kultur" and its President Marina Milz.
The orchestra has had two most important performances in Great Britain - in London, in the Queen Elisabeth Hall and in Edinburgh. Pianists Olga Balakleets and Julian Gallant were soloists and organizers of these concerts and Nicolas Ardizone and Saracen Power plc were the sponsors of travel expenses.
The orchestra is very versatile in its activities – besides the academic concerts "Concertino Tbilissi" offers regular educational concerts, with participation of young musicians from music colleges. Many of them today are recognized performers.
In 1999-2005 "Concertino Tbilissi" took part in the Competition of Young Georgian Musician-Performers, member of the European Union of Music Competitions for Youth. The Competitions were organized by the "Union of Young Creators" and its General Director Tsiuri Garuchava.
The orchestra regularly gives concerts in the best halls of Tbilisi, as well as in the Evangelical-Lutheran Reconciliation Church, where alongside with orchestra programs, the significant place belongs to the festive Christmas and Easter concerts with soloists and choirs. The Chamber Choir, headed by Prof. Givi Mundjishvili, co-operates in these programs with "Concertino Tbilissi". The most distinguished Georgian singers successfully appear with the ensemble, among them: Nino Chachua, Nino Dolendjashvili, Ketevan Kemoklidze, Tamaz Saginadze, Zaza Khelaia, Sophi Gordeladze, Gia Makharadze, and others.
"Concertino Tbilissi" has partner relationshs with the Goethe-Institute Tbilisi. In the result of this partnership a number of concerts were held both in the Institute and at the Conservatoire Grand Hall.
